Esta é a história da popular autora Vida Winter, um caso de sucesso mundial, com cerca de 60 décadas de livros publicados. Eis que finalmente decide deixar de ser um mistério e contar aquela que será a história mais importante de todas.
É então que recruta a Margaret para que escreva a sua biografia. Ela muda-se para a casa da escritora, onde se estabelecem algumas regras antes de dar inicio àquela que é a história mais impensável sobre as suas origens.
A narrativa tem bastante descrição e ficou um bocado aborrecida, tive que deixar o livro de lado. Retomei alguns meses depois e ainda bem, pois o mistério conseguiu manter-me interessada, foi muita curiosidade, sobretudo sobre o que aconteceu na casa da família e qual era o décimo terceiro conto.
